The first edition saw 40% female attendance, setting an important precedent for equity and inclusion in future mining industry events.

PERUMIN Jóvenes has allowed us to hear the voices and ideas of a new generation and their desire to build a mining industry more aligned with the values of sustainability, inclusion, and social responsibility.” This was highlighted by the Vice President of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), Zetti Gavelán, during the closing ceremony of the first edition of a mining event dedicated to students and professionals from different regions and educational institutions across the country.

He also acknowledged the wide array of specializations represented at the event, noting that today’s mining industry brings together an ecosystem of professionals from diverse fields, including engineers, social scientists, health professionals, environmental specialists, economists, and more.

“When the first PERUMIN was inaugurated 70 years ago, few could have imagined the impact it would have on the mining industry and the development of our country. Today, with this first edition of PERUMIN Jóvenes, we are marking a new milestone,” said Gavelán, highlighting that the event brought together over 450 young people from 15 regions.

In this inaugural edition, more than 30 conferences were held with the participation of over 60 speakers. Key topics included the modernization of mining, the active role of young people in politics, their influence on the digital transformation of the sector, and their impact on current issues. These activities aimed to ensure that mining remains a pillar of the country’s economic progress, regardless of the professional background of the attendees.

In addition, the president of PERUMIN Jóvenes, Homar Lozano, said, “I am proud to announce that one of the standout achievements of this edition is that 40% of the participants were women. This commitment to equity undoubtedly sets a significant precedent for future events in the mining industry.”

PERUMIN Jóvenes marks a milestone in the history of the IIMP, highlighting how mining presents an opportunity for Peru to achieve a prominent global position and contribute to the well-being of its population. The event also underscores the growing interest of new generations in responsible mining and its crucial role in the sustainable development of the country.
