Lima, June 17, 2022. With the purpose of disseminating among primary and secondary school students the modern, efficient, and responsible management practices promoted by the current mining industry, the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) is organizing a new edition of the “School Mining Award – IIMP” contest.

The winners will get LED TV sets, laptops, notebooks, and tablets, and will have the opportunity to visit PERUMIN 35th Mining Convention, all travel and accommodation expenses included if they do not live in Arequipa. At the convention, the winners and runners-up will be presented with their awards during the closing ceremony.

All primary and secondary students from both public and private schools located in the southern macro-region, which includes Apurímac, Arequipa, Cusco, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Puno, and Tacna, can participate in the contest.

To compete, students must submit artistic works, such as stories or scale models, addressing a mining-related topic. There are three levels for project submission and evaluation: from 1° to 4° grade of primary school, from 5° to 6° grade of primary school, and from 1° to 5° grade of secondary school.

Registrations will be online in teams. Each team must include a representative of the school (principal), the student who is participating, and an advisor (a teacher from the school.) Schools can compete in one, two, or three categories, by registering one participant per category.

The registration deadline is August 15, 2022. It is worth mentioning that this contest is organized with the valuable support of the Professional School of Mining Engineering of Universidad Católica de Santa María, which will contribute to it throughout the process.
