The Ministry of Foreign Affairs enthusiastically welcomes the holding of PERUMIN 35 Mining Convention, an event organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), which will take place in September 2022, to promote one of the main drivers of the Peruvian economy.

This was confirmed by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Enrique Chávez Basagoitia, during his participation in the "Mining and development" block of the main event of Heading to PERUMIN, which is taking place from 20 to 24 September online and free of charge.

"We are certain that within the framework of PERUMIN 35 there will be many spaces for analysis and debate on how to achieve sustainable development with a long-term vision. We predict prosperous results for the fair, which will benefit our beloved Peru", he said.

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luis Enrique Chávez, said that mining activity has historically had a leading role in the Peruvian economy from the origin of our ancient thousand-year-old cultures to the present day.

He added that the Peruvian economy continues to rely largely on mining, which has contributed around 10% of GDP in the last decade. "The sustainability of the mining activity depends on generating social profitability within the natural economic profit."

For her part, Cecilia Bákula, historian and university professor, highlighted the importance of formal mining for the future of the country, on which she said it has reached levels of specialization that generates not only admiration, but also significant income to the national economy, as well to bringing well-being and offering high-level technological solutions to environmental management.

"This is the moment when mining plays and will play a role of the utmost importance. To deny the mining history of Peru since its most ancient cultures is to place a veil of ignorance and cover up history with false knowledge and that is serious", said the academic.

Furthermore, Ricardo Márquez, president of the National Society of Industries (SNI), said that our country should aim to emulate the integration percentages of world leading mining countries such as Australia and Chile in terms of integration between mining and its mining suppliers.

"Australia with a mining GDP of 11% has managed to create 9% of its GDP from supplier participation, while Chile with a 12% mining GDP has created 8% of its GDP from supplier participation, with the application of sectorial policies, incentives and determined support for their industry", he said.
