Richard Adkerson, president of the International Council of Mining and Metals (ICMM), will be one of the main speakers in Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition, a space for open and decentralized debate organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), to be held online from September 20 to 24.

The senior executive, who also serves as executive director and vice president of Freeport-McMoRan, the company that owns the Cerro Verde mining unit (Arequipa), will be part of the "Long-term mining policy" block scheduled for September 23, where he will speak on this subject together with other experts.

The ICMM is an international organization dedicated to promoting a safe, fair and sustainable mining and metallurgical industry. Its members strengthen the environmental and social performance of the sector, catalyzing change and improving the contribution of mining to society.

It is made up of 30 regional and commodity associations and 27 world-class mining and metallurgical companies. Fourteen of these are active in Peru: Anglo American, Barrick, BHP, Freeport McMoran, Glencore, Gold Fields, Minsur, Mitsubishi Materials, MMG, Newmont Goldcorp, Río Tinto, Teck and Vale. Since 2019, the IIMP also belongs to this prestigious organization.

About Heading to PERUMIN 

Heading to PERUMIN is an initiative of the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) and the Executive Committee of PERUMIN 35. It is the prelude to the 35th edition of the traditional Mining Convention, which will take place in 2022.

The event includes presentations and discussion panels on the issues that set the national agenda, such as long-term mining policy, taxation, development of new mining projects and their impact on the regions, sustainability and the value chain in mining, among others.

Heading to PERUMIN - Bicentennial Edition will also present a virtual fair with the participation of public and private mining organizations. Through a state-of-the-art interactive platform, they will present the sustainable development practices carried out in their respective fields.
