The Mining Convention PERUMIN will take place once again from the 26th to the 30th of September 2022 on-site. It is one of the most important events of the mining sector, which has positioned Peru as the gathering point of the world mining industry.

This event, organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) will be held in the White City of Arequipa.

In this regard, all the respective measures are being taken to guarantee its success, among them those concerning biosafety matters. This was pinpointed by the renowned economist Claudia Cooper, President of the 35th edition of PERUMIN during the presentation of the event during the Mining Thursday meeting.

“As it will be a live event, we will spare no efforts to offer absolutely all the guaranties concerning biosafety. We will comply with the current provisions in force for large events: vaccines, negative Covid tests, capacity, ventilation, disinfection and distancing”, she emphasized.

Ms. Cooper commented that the Cerro Juli Convention Center is the ideal scenario to hold the PERUMIN meeting, as it has ample spaces covering more than 14 hectares and broad and well-ventilated facilities. She added that they are carrying out studies to avoid congestions.

The ex-minister also indicated that PERUMIN 35 will be a zero-carbon footprint event, with presentations translated to quechua. Furthermore, there will be a virtual mine and analyses will be performed on gender and diversity topics and there will also be an agenda on energy-related issues.

Mining Summit

In turn, Luis Rivera, President of the Mining Summit, main space for debate and analysis of matters of interest for the country and for the sector in PERUMIN, explained that the topics proposed for this edition will be framed within the Mining Competitiveness Index, the second edition of which will be presented this year.

“We will focus on four central lines of activity: projects and mining operations, infrastructure, regulations and institutionality and social and development topics”, he explained. Along that line, we will discuss the progress of mining projects in Peru, such as Quellaveco or Yanacocha Sulfides and of international projects, such as Salares Norte or Quebrada Blanca, in Chile, among others.

The Mining Summit will include presentations by renowned CEOs of worldwide leading mining companies and the keynote speech by a high representative of the Australian government, an allied strategic country in this edition of PERUMIN.

In addition to the Mining Summit, PERUMIN will have two other spaces of knowledge, such as the Technology, Innovation and Sustainability Forum (TIS Forum) where professionals and specialists will come together to analyze and debate on different aspects related to the mining industry; and the Technological and Mining Exhibition Fair (EXTEMIN) with a capacity of more than 1,400 stands.

This PERUMIN 35th edition will also resume the staging of the International Meeting where different countries with very relevant mining activity will present their sustainable development proposals for the industry, and will share successful practices carried out in their respective fields. To date, delegations from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Sweden and Germany have confirmed their participation.

Rumbo a PERUMIN

It was also announced that in the forthcoming months two new editions of the conference program Rumbo a PERUMIN will be held, a decentralized space that constitutes a prelude to what PERUMIN 35 will be in Arequipa.

Miguel Cardozo, President of Rumbo a PERUMIN, pointed out that the first edition will take place in April and will focus on the central mining area of the country, which covers the regions of Lima, Junín and Pasco; and the second edition will be held in June, and will focus on the region of Cuzco. In addition, in July and August, technical and Keynote conferences will be held, prior to the event.
