In the last conference, "Tax Considerations in Peruvian Mining", the public learned about the social responsibility work and technological advances of this important group of companies.

Heading to PERUMIN, designed by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers and PERUMIN 35 Mining Convention, it is not only a space to learn about the challenges of the mining industry in the country; it has also become a space for the exchange of information and experiences of mining companies and suppliers.

On July 15 at the conference "Tax Considerations in Peruvian Mining", six companies participated and, in this way, the public was able to learn more about the work of social responsibility and technological advances of this important group of companies.

Compañía Minera Poderosa

Engineer Walter Díaz, manager of the Integrated Management and Social Responsibility System, provided details on the integrated management and social responsibility system.

“The function of the integrated management system is to facilitate the responsibility of Senior Management to focuses on driving change in the organization; without mortgaging the future and adding value in a sustainable way to all its stakeholders ”, he said.

He added that in the case of Poderosa there are four management systems: Quality (ISO 9001:2015); Environmental (ISO 14001:2015); Health and Safety (ISO 45001:2018); and Anti-bribery (ISO 37001:2016).

Komatsu-Mitsui Maquinarias Peru

In turn, KMMP's head of planning, operations and mining services, Luis Dajes, explained the maintenance strategy.

He indicated that it is to do with the delivery of the general guidelines of how to administer and manage equipment maintenance, seeking the desired performance standards.

He also said that it seeks to establish the activities to be carried out, by means of the frequencies already determined, to ensure good performance throughout the useful life of the equipment.

"In the case of KMMP, the strategy update is based on continuous improvement and seeks client success and sustainability of the company's business," said Luis Dajes.

Calidra Perú

Engineer Juan Manuel Cornejo, commercial technical advisor for Calidra Perú, spoke about water treatments with lime.

“Calidra helps to avoid drainage formation by waterproofing the surface and in that sense, we have carried out laboratory tests that confirm that mixing the soil of the slopes with lime increases the impermeability of the material; and thus avoids the generation of acidic waters”, said Juan Manuel Cornejo.

RSP - Road Service Perú

The commercial manager, Fernando Malásquez; and the key account manager, Diego Centurión, from RSP - Road Service Peru presented the talk "Technology, renewable energy and safety, challenges in Peruvian mining".

During their talk, the executives said that the company works to offer innovative solutions tailored to its clients; understanding the complexities of the market, its high operational and safety standards.

Likewise, they pointed out that the company was established in Peru in 2012 as a private initiative to provide solutions and support to the mining sector.

ABC Dust Technologies

Samuel Toledo, CEO of ABC Dust Technologies, presented innovations for dust control in blasting, mining trucks, crushing and tailings dams for clean and sustainable mining.

“The main sources of dust in mining are the mine area, which includes blasting and loading; the crushing area with 20% to 40%; and finally erosion from dumps and tailings dams”, he said.

In light of this, he stressed that ABC Dust offers intelligent and sustainable dust control and soil stabilization for mining and forestry companies.

"We use data to customize our dust control and soil stabilization additives and optimize the soil stabilization and dust control programs," Samuel Toledo stressed.

Southern Peru Copper Corporation

Southern Peru Cooper Corporation’s Superintendent of Public Relations, Guillermo Vidalón del Pino, was in charge of talking about the “Development Vision”.

“The Development Vision consists of analyzing, in some way, the desired future, which is what we want for our country in 5, 10 or 20 years; and it is from there that we begin to take steps to build that desired future," he said.

Similarly, he argued that Peru's advantage is that it is a polymetallic country; and that mining –whether large, medium and small scale– is formal and therefore generates 20% of the Income Tax.

"Now with the rise in metal prices, there are those who propose to charge more tax to mining. That is a lack of vision for the country’s development; because what should be generated is greater investments to increase production volumes”, said Guillermo Vidalón del Pino.
