PERUMIN 33 MINING CONVENTION LAUNCH IN LIMA

The ceremony had the participation of important authorities from the mining sector and the government, the new vice minister for Mines, Ricardo Labó, the regional governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio; the major of Arequipa, Alfredo Zegarra and the UNSA Chancellor, Rohel Sánchez.

The great PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention launch was celebrated with the presence of important authorities from the mining sector and the national government. This mega event was organized by the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP) that expects to gather in Arequipa more than 100 000 visitors, among businessmen, students and mining professionals from 50 countries around the world.

In this edition, the IIMP, chaired by the engineer Víctor Gobitz, invited the architect Eva Arias de Sologuren, to chair the organization of PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention, a meeting were the main difficulties and challenges of the Peruvian mining sector, such as the execution of mining projects from the pipeline.

The launch ceremony carried out at The Westin Lima Hotel & Convention Center, had special guests such as the economist Ricardo Labó, vice minister for mines of the Ministry for Energy and Mines; Yamila Osorio, regional governor of Arequipa; Alfredo Zegarra, provincial major of Arequipa and Rohel Sánchez, Chancellor of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín, school were this event will be held from September 18 through 22.

“We are very pleased that this important event will be again celebrated at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín, symbolic university, not only because it is the ideal scenario to exchange high level knowledge, but also because it contributes to the integration between the mining sector and the academy”, stated by the architect Eva Arias de Sologuren.

PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention will have a 10.7 hectares’ area for the construction and enabling of exhibition areas, lectures rooms, common areas for attendants and the Mining Technological Fair (EXTEMIN) that will host more than 800 national and international companies of more than 70 industrial and commercial sectors, distributed in 1626 stands.

In this opportunity, PERUMIN 33, Mining Convention has the objective to highlight the social and environmental side, together with the technical one of the mining industry. This is why, its motto is ‘Mining: sustainability and competitiveness’. “These two strategical topics supplement each other and define the ideals of a new type of mining”, stated the architect Eva Arias de Sologuren.

The chairperson of the event explained that PERUMIN 33 Mining Convention will have 8 renovated meetings run by experts in the mining sector: Luis Marchese will chair the Mining Business Summit; Jorge Pancorvo, the Logistics Meeting; the engineer Carlos Aranda, the Environmental Meeting; the engineer Jorge Merino, the Social Meeting; Julia Torreblanca, the Legal and Tax Meeting, Ms. Isabel Arias, the International Meeting; Miguel Cardozo, the Technology and Innovation Meeting; and Ms. Yolanda Laumer, the Integration Meeting.

The architect Eva Arias de Sologuren stressed that, like in the prior edition, through the Peruvian Institute of Mining Engineers (IIMP), several emblematic works are done to improve the infrastructure of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín. One of them is the construction of the fence around the Engineering Area and the remodeling of the sanitary services of the university city, that involves an investment of more than 3 million soles.

Finally, the chair of PERUMIN 33, Mining Convention, stated that the deadline to submit logistics papers on topics related to mining is on March 15. The attendants will be able to develop their logistics papers taking as a reference the list of more than 30 topics suggested by the Organizing Committee of the Logistics Meeting.
